Profile

For resolving human-wildlife conflicts, I have conducted multidisciplinary researches in terms of different spatio-temporal scales, which deal with decision-makings from regional policy to national land policy regarding wildlife population and habitat management in Japan. To promote understanding local ecosystem process (including human interventions), which affords the key to develop a radical solution to the current and future conflicts, I have also addressed basic ecological studies on multi-evaluation of biological interactions and various species habitats both in natural and artificially-modified forest environments.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Landscape ecology---habitat evaluation procedures, resource selection functions
Community ecology---biological interactions
Wildlife management---population control, habitat management, damage management, human dimensions
Forest ecology---conifer plantation management
Restoration ecology---habitat restoration

MAIN STUDY FIELD:
Shirakami Mountains (UNESCO World natural heritage site, located in northern Japan)

MAIN STUDY SPECIES:
Middle to large size mammals (especially Macaca fuscata)
Dung beetles

BIRTH YEAR:
1980
