OLETFラットを用い、5~20週齢時に自発運動を行わせ、46週齢時に体重、内臓脂肪重量、血清脂質、レプチン濃度などを測定し、46週間の安静維持群および20~35週齢時運動群と比較した。幼若齢期(5~週齢)運動群の諸測定値いずれも安静維持および成長~成熟期(20~週齢)運動群に比較し有意な低値であった。
ヒト乳~幼児期相当期の運動不足が其の後のメタボリック症候群危険因子の発症に関与していることが示唆された。

加齢に伴い骨格筋の筋肉量および筋力は低下する。しかし、この加齢性筋肉減弱症(サルコペニア)の発症機序の詳細については十分に解明されていない。骨格筋は本来、再生能力の高い組織と考えられている。しかし加齢に伴いその再生能力は失われていくことが知られている。我々は、サルコペニア発症の分子メカニズムを解明するために、加齢に伴って骨格筋の再生能力がどのように変化するのか、また、変化の原因が何であるのかを分子、細胞レベルで検討し、いくつかの新しい知見を得ることに成功した。
