マイクロ流体デバイスを利用したorgan-on-a-chip技術は、生体内の環境を忠実に再現することで臓器レベルの細胞機能の保持を可能とし、動物実験に替わる新規な評価手法として創薬での利用が期待されている。ヒトの細胞を用いることで、より信頼性の高い薬剤評価を実現可能とし、病気のモデル化や細胞機能の可視化を可能とする特徴を有している。主要な臓器デバイスを臓器ごとに分けて紹介した。また、各臓器モデルを統合し固体全体の応答を模倣するモデルbody-on-a-chipについても述べた。
