It was reported in the previous study that hexane solution containing 0.1 mol dm-3 of O,O-bis(2-ethylhexyl) hydrogen thiophosphate (MSP-8) could extract Sc3+ quantitatively and separate successfully from the aqueous solution containing 1.0 mol dm-3 of ZrO2+ and 0.10 mol dm-3 of tripotassium citrate as a masking reagent, in the range of pH of 1.1-4.1. Based on this result, the recovery of Sc3+ from the waste water produced in the Zr mining was examined with MSP-8 extraction system in this study.
