Study of Scintillation Mechanism of GSO(Ce)using γ-rays from 137Cs

Measurement of scintillation time profile of GSO(Ce) crystal has been carried out using γ-rays from ^<137>Cs with a data-taking system consisting of a digitizing oscilloscope and a PXI data acquisition system. It is obtained that the decay rate (reciprocal number of decay time constant) is indicated as the sum of the radiative and nonradiative decay rates. It is evaluated that the radiative decay time constants are 68.7±1.0nsec and 916±135nsec for fast and slow components, respectively. The results of the remperature dependence of the nonradiative decay rates agree with the Arrhenius equation. It is estimated that the activation energies are 0.168±0.014eV and 0.388±0.112eV for fast and slow components, respectively.
