The focus of my research has always been on chemical entities that are pharmaceutically important. My PhD research involved selective synthetic modification of the clinically important antibiotic aminoglycosides, neomycin B, paromomycin and tobramycin, for improved efficacy in the treatment of tuberculosis. My research interest had subsequently shifted from small molecule structural modifications towards macromolecular delivery system. Currently I have been working with polymeric-micelle based drug delivery system with an aim to treat intractable cancers, mainly Glioblastoma. We have recently confirmed that surface modification of epirubicin-loaded polymeric-micelle with cRGD enhances their therapeutic efficacy against GBM through a cRGD-integrin mediated transcytosis pathway. I am also working towards developing other novel pathologic-stimuli-sensitive nanomedicine, featuring sequential and coherent tumor targeting mechanism that would provide better tumor penetration, uniform drug distribution and superior treatment outcome.
