橋本 禅

Dr. Shizuka Hashimoto is an associate professor in the Department of Ecosystem Studies, School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo. Prior to joining the University of Tokyo, he held positions at Kyoto University (2009-2015, as a Lecturer and an Associate Professor), the National Institute for Environmental Studies (2007-2009, as a NIES Special Researcher), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2005-2008, as a JSPS Overseas Research Fellow).

Trained in the field of rural planning, he possesses more than ten years of experience in ecosystem service evaluation and its application in rural and landscape planning. Dr. Hashimoto has acquired extensive experience in statistical modeling, land-change and ecosystem service simulation, and scenario analysis. He has published numerous peer-reviewed academic papers and book chapters, contributing as a Coordinating Lead Author to the Japan Satoyama Satoumi Assessment. Additionally, he served as one of the expert group members for Japan Biodiversity Outlook 2 and 3. Dr. Hashimoto is a member of the Science Council of Japan.

Internationally, Dr. Hashimoto contributed to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Global Assessment and the Asia-Pacific Regional Assessment as a Lead Author. He has been a member of the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel (MEP) of IPBES since 2018 and assumed the role of MEP Co-Chair in 2022.
