Scott Shelton-Strong is a Senior Learning Advisor at Kanda University of International Studies in the Self-Access Learning Centre, and an active member of the Research Institute of Learner Autonomy Education, Japan.

I am an experienced educator with more than 30 years in the field of language teaching and advising, where I have been active teaching, conducting research, authoring academic publications and presenting at international and national conferences in a range of institutions while working and living in nine different countries. My research interests include self-determination theory, reflection as autonomy support, emotions in language learning, learner autonomy, advising in language learning, and developing an understanding of the connections which interlink these to learner well-being and engagement. I have authored and co-authored book chapters, journal articles, and a recently published co-edited book volume related to these interests. Current projects include the application of self-determination theory to advising and self-access learning.
