Shinichiro Asayama is a Senior Researcher at Social Systems Division, National Institute for Environmental Studies, Japan. As an interdisciplinary environmental social scientist, his research draws on theories and concepts from the various disciplinary fields such as public policy and governance, media and communication studies, science and technology studies, human geography, and others to explore the social, political and ethical dimensions of energy and climate issues. His research broadly focuses on the politics of scientific knowledge and technological imaginaries at the science-policy interface of climate change. In particular, from the interpretive and critical social scientific perspectives, he tries to understand the role of discourses, framings and narratives in shaping the public and policy debate around carbon removal and solar geoengineering technologies. His research has been published in top climate and energy journals including Nature Climate Change, Climatic Change, Climate Policy, and Energy Research & Social Science. He currently serves as an associate editor for Dialogues on Climate Change and an associate deputy editor for Climatic Change.
