急速に発展するIT産業において日本が競争力を身につけ,いかに生き残るかを探求することは不可欠である。本研究では,生産性を向上させる要因を見出すために,この分野のリーダーであるアメリカに焦点を当ててソフトウェアエンジニアの労働市場の特徴や教育体制について探る.本研究において, 筆者はソフトウェアエンジニアのキャリア形成の基礎が,より専門的かつ焦点が定まったものであることを見出した. さらに, アメリカ社会の労働環境・労働条件は優秀なソフトウェアエンジニアを確保するために,より魅力的なものである.アメリカの先行研究および現地調査をとおして,ソフトウェアエンジニアの高生産性を助ける重要な要因は（１）ワーク・ライフ・バランスを容易にする高報酬および（２）地域・伝統に密接に結び付いた高等教育であることが示唆された.It is imperative to explore how Japan can survive with increasing competitiveness in the rapidly-growing IT industry. In order to seek the factors to improve productivity, this study focused on the United States, which is known as the leader of this field, and investigated the characteristics of software engineers' labor market and education system. From the study, the author found that the foundation of the software engineers' career development is more specialized and focused. Furthermore, the work environment and conditions are more attractive to retain excellent software engineers in the American society. Through the literature study and field study in the United States, it is suggested that some of the key factors that help software engineers' higher productivity are (1) high compensation which may facilitate work/life balance, and (2) high-level education closely related to the region.
