I have conducted ethnographic research with immigrant girls in Japan and the United States, exploring how they construct identities and belonging. More recently, I have conducted participatory action research (PAR) projects on youth empowerment and community building, collaborating with high schools, NPOs, and immigrant youth. My publications include Learning to Belong in the World: An Ethnography of Asian American Girls (Springer, 2018), Japanese Education in a Global Age: Sociological Reflections and Future Directions (co-edited, Springer, 2018), and Co-creating the Future of Multicultural Co-existence with Immigrant Youth: Empowerment and Advocacy through Collaboration (co-edited, Akashi Shoten, 2023).
