Takeshi Kawano received his M.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2001 and a Ph.D. degree in Electronic and Information Engineering in 2004, all from Toyohashi University of Technology, Aichi, Japan. From 2004 to 2005, Kawano was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Toyohashi University of Technology. From 2005 to 2007, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Berkeley Sensor and Actuator Center (BSAC) at the University of California Berkeley as a postdoctoral researcher. In May of 2007, he joined the faculty of Toyohashi University of Technology, where he is currently a Professor of Institute for Research on Next-generation Semiconductor and Sensing Science (IRES2) and Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Kawano's current research interests focus on micro and nanoscale approaches for neural interface devices, brain-machine interfaces, and their clinical applications.
