Profile

We are carrying out fundamental and applied studies on energy conversions and environmental protection technologies using functional fluids . As functional fluids that differ from the common fluids such as air and water, there are magnetic fluid that corresponds to a magnetic field, electrorheological fluid (ER fluid) whose viscosity can be controlled by an electrical field, magnetrorheological fluid (MR fluid) whose viscosity can be controlled by a magnetic field, liquid crystal, blood having the hemostatic and bactericidal actions, and oxygen transportation function. In addition, plasma that can enhance chemical reactions, and supercritical fluid are also considered as functional fluids. The supercritical fluid has unique properties intermediate between liquid and gas. These properties can be applied to chemical processes and energy conversion systems.The unique properties of the functional fluids has the unlimited potential for engineering applications. Moreover, some properties and behavior of functional fluids have been unclear in the sense of physics. We should reveal the unclear points in the studies.
In our laboratory, Fluid Engineering Laboratory, with the aim of proposing and developing applications of renewable energy using functional fluids, we are carrying out the following subjects:
Energy conversion systems of renewable energy (solar energy, waste heat, etc), and Reducing technologies of environmental load for the existing energy conversion devices
