近年、携帯電話やパソコンの普及によりリチウムイオン電池の市場も伸びてきており、二次電池のトップシェアを獲得している。しかし、リチウムイオン電池には希少金属であるコバルトが使われているため、このまま市場が拡大していくと、資源枯渇問題が懸念される。そこで、他の電池との環境有利性や資源への影響を求めるため、リチウムイオン電池の製造から、リサイクルまでにおいて、LCAを実施し、環境負荷を明らかにした。
