Research Subjects and Activities: I am conducting geological, petrological, geochemical, and geochronological studies of Antarctica and its surrounding areas. Specific research topics include
(1) High- to ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism, fluid activity, and crustal melting processes in the deep crust.
(2) Behavior and geochemistry of accessory minerals in high-temperature metamorphic and igneous rocks and their link to geochronology.
(3) Formation and development of the Gondwanan supercontinent in Proterozoic to Paleozoic.
(4) Archaean crustal studies.

放射年代測定のターゲットである岩石中の副次鉱物の挙動を明らかにするために、その共生関係、鉱物組織、化学組成の解析をすすめてきた。南極産超高温変成岩試料を用いたジルコンとモナザイトのU-Pb年代測定データと共存するザクロ石との間の元素分配の解析によって、高温変成作用における副次鉱物の化学的特徴ならびに年代測定で得られた年代値と地質イベントとの対応関係への理解が進展した。また、南極、南アフリカ、スリランカでの野外地質調査で採集した岩石試料の解析、ならびに、国内外の研究者との様々な地域の変成岩・火成岩試料を用いた共同研究によって、高温変成作用と岩石の融解プロセスならびに放射年代測定とを組み合わせた研究を今後も継続していく。2007年からは、南極セールロンダーネ山地をターゲットとして、ドロンイングモードランドにおける火成・変成プロセスの解明を目指した研究をおこなっている。2010年からは、南極との連続性も視野に入れながら、始生代の地殻進化プロセスの解明を目的にインド南部の始生代ダールワール岩体の地質・変成・年代研究をおこなっている。
