Tomoaki Hayashi is an Associate Professor of English Linguistics in the Faculty of International Studies, Meio University, Japan. He received a Ph.D. in Human and Environmental Studies from Kyoto University. His research has focused on language change, with special emphasis on grammaticalized deverbal prepositions in English, such as considering, including, respecting, and using. His current interests include the dynamism and diversity of language change across English, Japanese, and the Ryukyuan languages, along with language contact throughout their histories.
