Yoshiyuki Tomoda

My research is concerned with the relationships between modern Japanese literature and cinematic expression.
Concentrating particularly on the collaboration between Abe Kobo and the director Teshigahara Hiroshi, I am engaged in a correlative reading of original novels, film scripts, and movies.
By focusing on the cinematic statements of writers, I am developing research which reads the literary history of Japan from new angles and at the same time reconsiders the history of film theory in Japan.
I am also involved in research into novels set in Okinawa, particularly those of Medoruma Shun, research into materials typically used in school Japanese classes, and digitizing film projects.

Born in 1979 in Nara Prefecture.
Ph.D (Literature) from Ritsumeikan University Graduate Faculty of Letters in 2008.
Scholar of Japanese modern literature and cinema.
