本論文では, 連続的テンプレートマッチング手法における検出精度と所要SN比の関係を実験的に検討している.ここでは, 入力画像およびテンプレート画像に対して, 互いに統計的に独立な白色ガウス雑音が重畳している場合を仮定している.1/4画素相当の検出精度を実現するためには, 42dB程度のSN比が必要であること, 雑音が存在する場合であっても, 入力画像およびテンプレート画像に対する高域遮断は検出精度の劣化をもたらすことを明らかにしている.

連続的テンプレートマッチング手法は, 入力画像-テンプレート画像間の相互相関係数を帯域制限補間することによって, 微少な移動量を精度良く検出する手法である.本論文では, 相互相関係数の代わりに, 2乗誤差および絶対値誤差を用い, これらを帯域制限補間して得られる誤差曲面を最小化することによって移動量を検出する手法について検討している.また, 同手法による移動量の検出精度を明らかにしている.
