The diffusion patterns and its speed of IPTV are so different country by country. We started to analyse some markets
Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the U.S.A, by using extended five-force model of Michel Porter. And found condition for IPTV diffusion. At the same time we found that it can be some industrial structures instead of fully integrated (IPTV, ISP, and broadband access) model to promote competition. Interestingly Japan introduced layer-based competition for IPTV in the result of open access rules for NTT, a dominant player in FTTx access network. So you can choose access networks, IPSs, and IPTV servicers in Japan while not the case in most of the countries. Finally we conclude that the trend in Japan, where third party company acTVila also provide network-neutral business platform for contents providers, is not a special example but a reasonable case. © 2010 IEEE.
