Dr. Xichao Zhang is an Assistant Professor at Waseda University. He is a member of Prof. Masahito Mochizuki’s theoretical group and works in close collaboration with Dr. Xiuzhen Yu’s experimental team at RIKEN. He received his Ph.D. from Shinshu University in 2018, and was a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow at Shinshu University from 2020 to 2022. He also worked at the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen). Dr. Zhang’s research interests lie in the general areas of magnetism and spintronics, with a focus on the theoretical and computational study of spin textures, spin dynamics, and spintronic devices. Since 2013, he has been exploring the static and dynamic properties of skyrmions and their topological counterparts in magnetic systems with competing or frustrated interactions. Recently, his research particularly focuses on the overdamped dynamics of topological spin textures interacting with artificially nanostructured pinning. In addition, he works on interdisciplinary topics such as the active-matter-like dynamics and fluid-like phenomena in spintronic systems. Dr. Zhang has published more than 100 academic papers in peer-reviewed journals, and his Google Scholar citations are above 9000 in December 2023. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, and a member of the American Physical Society and the Physical Society of Japan.
