Profile

Born in 1984 in central Tokyo but spending most of her childhood in the State of New York, it was at a very young age that Eriko noticed the cultural differences that exists between countries, especially on the idea of school, teaching, and education. Fundamental assumptions on education, such as the extent to which equity in education is to be pursued, how conflicts and behavioral issues are to be addressed in schools, and what roles teachers are to play in education, are too often left unchallenged in domestic debates, while they differ remarkably among countries and regions. Eriko's main field of research is teacher education and ethics of education, and she mainly studies and gives workshops on the importance of teachers reflecting on their own teaching practices, and methods of facilitating deep reflection.
