加速器科学が専門。その応用範囲である素粒子物理学実験や加速器駆動中性子源、加速器駆動核変換なども研究対象とする。J-PARCリニアックの研究開発を建設開始当初から行ってきており、特に、世界最高強度のビーム電流をユーザー運転に供給している現行の高周波四重極加速空洞（RFQ）は、ビーム設計からコミッショニングまで一貫して開発した。現在はミューオンg-2/EDM精密測定実験のための世界初のミューオンリニアックの研究開発に力をいれており、さらに加速器駆動核変換システムや重イオン加速のための超伝導リニアックの研究開発も行っている。
