台湾・中央研究院地球科学研究所研究技師（正職）、金沢大学古代文明・文化資源学研究所（客員教授）、岡山大学文明動態学研究所（客員研究員）。
岡山大学大学院博士課程修了後（理学博士）、アメリカ・ワシントンDCのカーネギー研究機構でポスドク研究員として過ごす。1998年から台北の中央研究院に在籍。電子顕微鏡技術を用いた火山岩や変成岩の研究を専門としている一方で、分析技術を応用して考古遺物、特に東南アジア・東アジアの石器石材や中国青銅器鋳造技術の研究などに取り組んでいる。専門は地球科学、岩石学、文化財分析科学。
