医学部看護学科にて地域保健学・公衆衛生・疫学を学び、病院での臨床を経た後、東京大学大学院教育学研究科にて博士号(教育学)を取得。健康教育科学・メンタルヘルスプロモーション・疫学が専門。2017年から国立精神・神経医療研究センターにて、若者のメンタルヘルスに関する研究に従事。学校でのメンタルヘルスリテラシーに関する教育ツールを開発。アスリートとの協働で進めるメンタルヘルス啓発プロジェクト(よわいはつよいプロジェクト)について研究の観点から関わる。若年層が健康かつ幸せに育つ社会を目指して、研究と実践の橋渡しに取り組んでいる。

Yasutaka Ojio leads the Elite athlete's mental health and school mental health at the National Institute of Mental Health in Japan and joins international research teams (Centre for Youth Mental Health - The University of Melbourne). He holds a 2021-2023 Grant-in-Aid for Early-Career Scientists, a 2022-2024 CategoryFund for the Promotion of Joint International Research (Fostering Joint International Research (A)), and a 2022-2025 Initiative Program from the Toyota Foundation.
He has published 30 international scientific peer-reviewed articles, 40 Japanese scientific articles, and a number of book chapters. He is responsible for developing and disseminating several Japanese versions of the mental health education and screening tools including IOC Mental Health in Elite Athletes Toolkit.

Yasutaka Ojio has experience in the areas of mental health promotion, especially in highly competitive sports environments and school educational settings, the development of universal mental health literacy interventions for young people and adults, in addition to health promotion innovation in mental health.

He holds a Master of Education, a PhD in Education (thesis developed the school-based Mental health literacy education), and a Diploma in public health/clinical nursing. He had a nurse certificate and worked as a psychiatric clinical nurse in the psychiatric emergency unit.
