I am a social and cultural historian of science, specialising in the history of Anglo-Japanese relations in scientific and technical fields.  My other research topics include the history of chemistry in general and the history of science in post-Victorian Britain and post-Meiji Japan, higher education, laboratory designs, sites of scientific practice and international cooperation in science from the 19th up to the 21st century. I also worked on the history of the Institute for Molecular Science (IMS, Okazaki City, Aichi prefecture) between  2007 and 2016, which reflects my interest in molecular science, physical chemistry, and chemical physics in Japan after the Second World War.  Recent appointments to positions based in Aichi Prefecture have brought me to the local history and heritage of science and technology in the Tokai (Chubu) Region.
