This paper deals with the influence of loading condition on crack growth rate by stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in an austenitic stainless steel. Three types of SCC tests, in which the stress intensity factor K was increasing, constant and decreasing, were conducted under large-scale yielding condition (LSY). The crack growth rate under LSY was characterized by the equivalent stress intensity factor K_J obtained by J integral. The crack growth by K-increasing test was faster than that by K-constant or decreasing tests at the same K_J level, and this result shows that the crack growth rate increased with increasing dK_J/da even if under the same K_J level. It is concluded that the crack growth rate by SCC could be characterized by K_J and dK_J/da.
