川本 悠紀子

専門：西洋古典学、古代ローマ史（なかでも都市・建築・美術をはじめとする文化史、社会史）が専門です。対象とする地域は主にイタリア半島（特にローマ、ポンペイ、ヘルクラネウム、スタビアエ、オプロンティス）ですが、小アシア（エフェソス）とブリタニア（バース、フィッシュボーン）についても研究しています。近年は、古代ローマ住宅のほかに、古代ローマにおける庭園についても研究を進めており、コーネル大学のThe Casa della Regina Carolina Project at Pompeiiにも専門家として参加・発掘にも従事していました。また、専門ではありませんが碑文のデジタル化に関するプロジェクトEpiDocの日本での情報提供・ワークショップ開催、古代ローマの庭園データベース（Cornell, NYU)の作成、古典籍から天文学的現象を繙くプロジェクト(https://sites.google.com/view/spinach-group/en)、タルクィニア周辺の遺跡と道・交易との関係性に迫るプロジェクト、Humanitext Antiqua (https://humanitext.ai/)、宇宙地球環境科学と歴史学・考古学を結ぶ 超学際ネットワーク形成(https://transeha.isee.nagoya-u.ac.jp/)にも参加・協力しています。

I completed my BA and MA (History) in Japan, where I wrote dissertations on Hanghäuser in Ephesus (BA) and the House of Manander in Pompeii (MA). I was a PhD ERASMUS student at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München (Klassische Archäologie) in 2012. I was awarded my doctorate (Classics) from King's College London in January 2016 for the thesis entitled 'The Vitruvian Peristyle: A Textual and Archaeological Study'.
I participated in excavations in Nara (Heijyo), Somma Vesuviana, and in Pompeii (Casa della Regina Carolina). I held post-doctoral positions in Kyoto, Rome, Osaka, and Munich. In April 2018, I joined Nagoya University, the Institute for Advanced Research as a postdoctoral researcher, then took up a position at Department of Classics in April 2020. As of April 2022, I rejoined the Institute for Advanced Research for a collaborative project as an affiliated associate professor.
My main research area is Roman architectural history and architectural structures described in historical texts (Greek and Latin). I am also interested in the sociopolitical history of the late Roman Republic to the early Imperial period. My current research project is on Roman gardens and I am exploring the topic from archaeological and textual evidence.
