Long term experience in the development of computerised decision support system (DSS) on environmental management & safety based on the computational models of hydrological processes, currents, waves, sediment and pollutant transport in rivers, reservoirs and coastal areas of seas. In 1986 -2000 a leader of the Ukrainian R&D activities on the model based support on the prediction of radioactive contamination in the rivers and reservoirs impacted by the Chernobyl accident and on the justification of the relevant water protection measures. Awarded for this work by the Ukrainian State Prize in Science and Technology, -the country’s highest distinction for R&D. The developed by his team models are implemented since beginning of 90th into the EC funded real-time online decision support system for offsite nuclear emergency management – RODOS. The further improvements and extensions of RODOS are provided last decade within the EC RTD 6th FP Project EURANOS and 7th FP projects NERIS_TP and PREPARE: “Innovative integrated tools and platforms for radiological emergency preparedness and post-accident response in Europe (2013-2016)”. Member of Management Committee of PREPARE and coordinator of its Working Group 5 “Aquatic migration of radionuclides” including 10 EC institutes and Fukushima University. He has been involved in IAEA CRP Programs VAMP ( chairmen of River/Reservoir Group), BIOMOVS, EMRAS, MODARIA, Black Sea.
Since 03.2011 his team provided in Ukraine in cooperation with EU colleagues the model based researches of the environmental impacts of the Fukushima Daiichi accident. Since November 2013 he is staff member of the Institute of Environmental Radioactivity (IER) at Fukushima University. He develops and implement with the colleagues the models (including the models of the Hydrological Dispersion Module of DSS RODOS) to be used for the prediction of the dynamics of radiocesium in rivers, reservoirs, ponds Fukushima prefecture and reservoirs during the extreme floods and other emergencies, as also for the assessment of the efficiency of the remediation measures planned for the water bodies.
