The reaction of a dinuclear palladium complex [Pd-2(CH3CN)(6)][BF4](2) with cycloheptatriene (CHT) in the presence of triphenylphosphine afforded an anti dinuclear addition product, anti-[Pd-2(mu-C7H8)(PPh3)(4)][BF4](2). Deprotonation of the CHT ligand in the dinuclear CHT complex gave a mixed-valence cycloheptatrienyl (Tr) complex, anti-[Pd-2(mu-C7H7)(PPh3)(4)][BF4](2). A platinum congener of the dinuclear Tr complex was also synthesized by the double addition of Pt-0(PPh3)(2) moieties to [C7H7][BF4]. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
