Dr. Shigeo Koyasu received his D.Sc. degree from the University of Tokyo. He worked as Research Associate of the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Medical Science, Instructor, and Assistant Professor of the Department of Pathology, Harvard Medical School, Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and Professor and Chairman of Microbiology and Immunology, Keio University of Medicine, Director of RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (IMS), Executive Director of RIKEN. He is now President of the National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST). Dr. Koyasu discovered group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2) originally called as natural helper (NH) cells and has been instrumental in the studies of type 2 innate immune responses in helminth infection and allergic inflammation. He has served as a board member of the Japanese Society for Immunology (JSI) and the Molecular Biology Society of Japan (MBSJ), a council member of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS), the president of the Federation of Immunological Societies of Asia and Oceania (FIMSA), and the president of JSI.
