A flame spray pyrolysis method to directly prepare submicron BaMgAl 10O17:Eu2+ (BAM:Eu) phosphor particles was designed. Characteristics such as photoluminescence, crystallinity and particle morphology were investigated for products prepared under various conditions and they were compared with those of the commercial product. The as-prepared and post-annealed powders showed blue emission characteristics at 450 nm. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
