We made basic bodice patterns for business suits and discussed the relation between them and the physical type characteristics of the upper half body of adult males and between the patterns and measurement items. The results were as follows: 1) Basic bodice patterns of physical type characteristics of the side view showed the following features : a) in the regular type, the inclination of front center line was slight, bust-fitting dart was necessary
b) in the obese type, the inclination of front center line was larger than regular type, abdomen-fitting dart (side dart point toward the abdomen) was set up
c) in the round back type, the quantity of shoulder dart was more than regular type, side neck point to waist posterior was longer than side neck point, bust point to waist anterior, posterior width was wider than anterior width
d) in the sway back type, the side neck point to waist posterior was shorter than side neck point, bust point to waist anterior. 2) In order to improve fit to the upper half body of adult males, it was desirable to measure antero and posterior length, width and girth items correspondingly. Particularly, revised antero-posterior waist width should be measured to wrap the protruding point at the back and front and introduced into the pattern making. It was effective that posterior length items were measured as vertical dimensions from the protruding point at the back to waist line to keep the well-fitting of the bottom line. © 1998, The Japan Research Association for Textile End-Uses.
