We used three kinds of Japanese Paper (Wa-shi), twisted treads, made from them, a fabric made from the treads and a reference sample, cotton, to study the adsorption of dyes onto those samples. The change of the adsorption ratio with time was briefly evaluated. The differences of Wa-shi greatly affected the adsorption of three kinds of dyes. Twisted thread tends to show higher adsorption compared to Wa-sin paper. Additional studies on the adsorbed water and hydrogen bonding status before or after twisted thread fabrication suggested that hydrogen bonding as well as molecular orientation of cellulose affects the observed dye adsorption of Wa-shi and its textiles.
