We have identified RSOsPR10 as the root specific protein induced by drought and salt treatments in rice. Expression of RSOsPR10 was up-regulated by JA and ACC, while salicylic acid strongly suppressed its expression. Here, we conducted analyses for putative transcription factors involving RSOsPR10 expression in rice roots. We investigated the expression profiles of RSOsPR10 mRNA in JA deficient mutant hebiba. In this mutant, RSOsPR10 expression was up-regulated by salt, wounding and drought, suggesting the presence of JA-independent pathway. OsERF1, ethylene (ET)- and JA-responsive factor, was shown to be up-regulated by salt, wounding, JA, and ACC treatments in wild-type rice roots. The expression of OsERF1 was transiently increased slightly earlier than that of RSOsPR10. These results suggest that OsERF1 is involved in the expression of RSOsPR10 and that there is crosstalk between JA and ET in RSOsPR10 expression. Recent transcriptome analyses indicated a possible involvement of an elicitor-inducible bZIP transcription factor, OsTGAP1, in RSOsPR10 expression. The expression of RSOsPR10 was significantly increased in the OsTGAP1 over-expression line. Therefore, we investigated the expression profiles of OsTGAP1 mRNA in wild-type rice roots. OsTGAP1 expression was increased by salt and JA treatments. Currently, we are constructing GUS- or LUC- reporter gene under the control of 1-4kb promoter region of RSOsPR10 to find cis-elements for RSOsPR10 expression.
