This paper presents a pilot study about the effectiveness of L1 polysemy instruction on L2 errors. We asked two groups of subjects to translate "dekiru" into English, with only one group receiving instruction about the polysemy of "dekiru." As a result, we found that L1 polysemy instruction prevented L2 errors to some degree while some of the meanings of "dekiru" seemed difficult for the subjects to recognize or understand.
