Nocardia fusca and Nocardia pseudosporangifera produced (R)-3-pentyn-2-ol and (S)-3-pentyn-2-ol in 24 and 72 h reaction, respectively, from (RS)-3-pentyn-2-ol, with greater than 70% molar yields through a stereoinversion reaction involving stereoselective oxidation and reduction with 3-pentyn-2-one as an intermediate.
