Profile

In the field of superconductor electronics the research and development made on the materials and devices are as follows:
1969-1984: Development of film technologies of the compound superconductors NbNx, Nb3Ge and V3Si.
1983-1985: Clarification of the basic properties of Superconducting QUantum Interference Device (SQUID) for its application to degital devices.
1985-1989: Growth of the high quality Nb single-crystal films for their electronics applications.
1987-1990: Development of the molecular layer epitaxy techinique of thin single-crystal films of Al2O3 as an insulator of electron devices.
1988-1995: Growth of high temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3Oy single-crystal and YBa2Cu3Oy/SrTiOx multilayer films by a reactive sputtering method, and development of an Nb-YBa2Cu3Oy point-contact Josephson junction on the YBa2Cu3Oy film.
1991-2012: Discovery of the intrinsic Josephson effect of high temperature superconductor (Bi, Pb)2Sr2CaCu2Oy single crystals, experimental and theoretical studies on it, and further development into dc SQUID, and detector and oscillator over the frequency range of GHz to THz.
