<Summary of my presentation>
In Japan, annual alcohol consumption per capita has consecutively shrunk over the decades. However, wine consumption in the country has steadily increased in recent years. In fact, wine is becoming one of the major alcoholic beverages consumed by Japanese people. One of the most important factors behind the current wine boom in Japan is the growing popularity of so-called “Japan Wine,” which is wine made 100% from domestically produced grapes. Japan Wine has now been increasingly expected to be the most important growth driver for the development of the wine industry in the country. How to nurture and upgrade the national and regional brands of Japan Wine is the crucial point in this regard. On the other hand, the size of the Japanese wine industry is still very small from an international comparative perspective, and there are many issues that remain to be solved for its further development.
In this presentation, I explained my analysis on the effectiveness of various types of policies, initiatives and strategies in industry and government in terms of promoting the wine industry and local wine clusters in Japan.
