Takae Takeuchi has always enjoyed exploring scientific ideas from a very young age. She began her higher education at Nara Women’s University where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry. She went on to earn her Masters of Science in Physical Chemistry as well as her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at her undergraduate alma matter. Her doctoral thesis was titled: “Physicochemical Studies on the Fragmentation Mechanisms of Organic Ions Using Mass Spectrometry”. After receiving her Ph.D., Takae was a postdoctoral fellow at The University of Liege in Belgium under the direction of Professor J.C. Lorquet. She went on to a Visiting Researcher position at The Institute of Mass Spectrometry at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands where she collaborated with Nico M.M. Nibbering. She is currently an associate professor of analytical chemistry at Nara Women’s University.

Takae continues to be very active in the science community in Japan and abroad. She has been affiliated with the following societies: Cooperation Member, Science Council of Japan; Secretary of Analytical Chemistry Division, Science Council of Japan; Chair of Nomenclature Subcommittee, Mass Spectrometry Society of Japan; Chair of Mass Spectral Database Division, Mass Spectrometry Society of Japan; Editorial board, Mass Spectrometry and the subcommittee of Nomenclature. She has continued to contribute to IUPAC and has been working on the IUPAC Orange Book for Surface Analysis with an international task group. Takae has fostered collaboration among members of IUPAC, ISO, and local societies in Japan and abroad. She is currently the IUPAC Division V Secretary.

In most of Takae’s research, mass spectrometry and ion mobility were used to research environmental factors, involving fungal growths at cultural heritage sites. The JST-SENTAN program was involved in her research, and a system was developed to detect MVOCs in the atmosphere. She remains active as an educator, who continues to link education and local industries for encouraging young scientists to obtain practical scientific skills for the future. As an active female scientist, she encourages young female researches at her university to continue to contribute to the scientific community.

Through Takae’s career and experience, she remains focused on continual collaboration in the science community. Her wish is actively update and contribute to the spectral, mass spectral, and ion mobility spectral databases.
